Hands up who knows what this is?...That's right, it's a yoga mat. It's also a device used to inflict pain beyond imagine on novice rowers.
For tonight was my first attendance at the Darwin College Boat Club circuit training. Only an hour. How hard could that be?! My first clue as to how hard it might be came from my lab colleague, friend and the girl who got me into rowing, Jenny, who over lunch today might of referred to the girl running the circuits as "a bit of a psycho". Coming from someone researching schizophrenia; worrying. From now on she is *psychogirl*.
My second clue came from my housemate, Linn, just before I left for circuits, casually mentioning that she didn't quite throw-up the first time she did them.
Was I unprepared? Oh yes. Throwing up for me was close (but thankfully avoided), and I don't think my pathetic attempts at press-ups and the like impressed *psychogirl* too much. Still, I'll stick with it and report back for more. I can take everything they throw at me and more. Apparently I wont be able to move tomorrow and wednesday might be worse, but hey, shit happens.
I even turned down a free wine-tasting session with CUBWTS to do this (featuring 12 wines). I must be freaking insane.
However the benefits of circuits are already apparent. You get round Sainsbury's much faster as no one wants to be close to the fat smelly dripping bloke. Sorry about that.
